The Rollins Community raised more than $35,300 for Greater Orlando Children's Miracle Network during Rollins College's first-ever Dance Marathon. About 170 members of the Rollins community participated in the November 10 event which included 12 hours of non-stop dancing, entertainment, food and games.

"I have never seen an event that brought people together like this," said Director of Community Engagement Micki Meyer. "It really united our students."

The effort to stay up for 12 hours and with constant movement was meant to symbolize the physical and mental struggles faced daily by children with terminal or critical illnesses. The event included various performances presented by local talent along with testimonies from Miracle Children who have benefited from Greater Orlando Children's Miracle Network.

Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. The benefiting hospitals in Greater Orlando are Shands Children's Hospital at UF and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Money raised through Greater Orlando Children's Miracle Network is used to purchase patient care equipment and fund programs and research that benefit more than 250,000 children treated at these two hospitals each year.

Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity was the winner of the overall "Miracle Cup" based on their involvement with dancers, fund-raising, participation and spirit. Chi Omega won the top spirit award and Kappa Delta won the top fund-raising award.
