FOR WATERFORD ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, HELPING HOSPITALIZED KIDS IS THE GREATEST REWARD
ORLANDO, FL, May 02, 2006— A fifth grade class at Waterford Elementary
School refused to accept recognition for its victory in the school-wide fundraising
competition to benefit Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). The school raised over $500 to help Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market #3617 kick off its 2006 CMN fundraising year.
Each class at Waterford Elementary School was challenged by the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market to a week-long competition to raise money for CMN with the promise of a pizza party for the winning class. Using collection buckets inside each classroom, the winning group, Mrs. Capece’s fifth grade class, raised $43. The outgoing elementary students refused the recognition and asked that the money which would be used for the party go to CMN.
Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America. Participating hospitals in Central Florida are Shands Children's Hospital at the University of Florida and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Money raised through CMN is used to purchase patient care equipment and fund programs and research that benefit more than 250,000 children treated at these two hospitals each year.
Wal-Mart has been a corporate sponsor of CMN since 1987. In the Central Florida area alone, Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB raised over $388,000 for CMN in 2005. Proceeds from the Waterford Elementary School fundraising competition will go toward Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market #3617’s total CMN contribution for 2006.
