The Kids of Greater Orlando Children's Miracle Network

Brooke - Groveland

One Friday night Brooke was playing softball, the next she was fighting for her life. Brooke was a normal, happy, healthy 10 year old when she became ill with what appeared to be a stomach virus.

Over the next week, as her condition worsened, her mother took several trips to Brooke's doctor and the emergency room. Finally they got the diagnosis that would change their lives - cardiomyopathy. A virus had attacked Brooke's heart.

Brooke was transferred to Shands Children's Hospital where her parents received grim news. Doctors told them there was a 33% chance Brooke's heart would get well, a 33% chance she would need a heart transplant and a 33% chance she would not survive. But Brooke was in this game to win. She received her new heart and today she is back on the softball field enjoying the game she loves.
