Noah, Brett and Aaron
Orlando, FL
To you, Noah, Brett and Aaron may look like normal little boys. They enjoy swimming, golf and skateboarding. They go to school like other kids. But life for these three brave young men is anything but normal. Noah, Brett and Aaron all have a rare genetic mitochondrial disorder that affects only 33 people in the world. All three boys have hemophilia. All have primary immune deficiency. They each take 14 medicines every day. They were all sick before they were born and their local physicians could not figure out what was causing their illness. But within hours of arriving at Shands Children’s Hospital, a geneticist was able to diagnose Brett’s metabolic disorder and save his life. When his brothers also tested positive for the same condition, all were placed on medicine and immediately began to improve. Although they will be on medication the rest of their lives, Noah, Brett and Aaron are back to living life to its fullest with the help of University of Florida physicians and Shands Children’s Hospital.
