Sarah
Deltona, FL
Born eight weeks early weighing just over 3 pounds, Sarah came into this world fighting for her life. Born with omphalocele, a birth defect that causes the abdominal organs to grow on the outside of the baby’s body, Sarah required a number of abdominal surgeries to correct the problem. When she was six months old, Sarah’s parents took her to Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida. They found the UF physicians and hospital staff very helpful and knowledgeable and they met all of Sarah’s needs. Today Sarah is still on a liquid diet but she continues to develop with the help of physical, occupational and speech therapy. She is an energetic toddler who especially loves to push her grocery cart everywhere.
