Emma Provenzano knew her mom was bringing a cake in to school for her birthday but she didn’t know her mom invited guests. The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals team surprised Emma with the announcement that she had been chosen to represent the state of Florida as the 2012 Champion Child.
Emma was born with a congenital heart defect called transposition of the great vessels. A big name that means her pulmonary artery and aorta were switched; Emma’s heart was circulating oxygen-depleted blood throughout her body. Sweet little Emma underwent four open heart surgeries at The Heart Center of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Today, she’s a healthy, smiling 7-year-old!

On November 12th hundreds of participants chose to walk 15 miles or a 5K, to cycle 60 miles, or to go on a 220 mile motorcycle ride to benefit our local kids. Hosted by Marriott, the Orlando Torch Relay event was the last stop on a six week tour across the country with similar events taking place in numerous cities. Miss America and Miss Florida were at the event to congratulate participants and hand out medals. Thank you to all sponsors and participants for making Torch Relay a success!

We want to sincerely thank many local businesses and schools for their participation in Miracle Jeans Day this year. The concept was simple: go casual and wear jeans for the day to benefit our local kids! We are especially grateful for the enthusiasm of the RE/MAX Oceanside group in reaching out to other local businesses for participation. We are also very excited about Windermere Preparatory's second year of participation. This wonderful group of students went casual for a day to help out other local kids.

Beginning now through Sept. 30, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores employees will be putting their hearts into raising funds for 89 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by asking customers to purchase $1, $5 or $20 heart icons.
Love’s raises additional funds by holding bake sales, pumping gas for tips, conducting in-store drawings and coordinating other fundraising events. In 2010, Love’s raised $1 million at more than 265 locations.
Like all Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraisers, the funds raised from Love’s five-week campaign will help create miracles by funding medical care, research and education that saves and improves the lives of 17 million children treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year.

Last year, more than 300 children were treated at Arnold Palmer Hospital for kidney disease. Until recently, the children of Central Florida did not have their own dialysis center. Children received their dialysis at adult centers.
The Hewell Kids' Kidney Center was funded through philanthropic support and is now open in Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. "Children will receive care more quickly, feel a greater sense of control and benefit from the comfort and strength of being with other children and families with similar experiences", says Jorge Ramirez, MD, Director of Pediatric Nephrology at Arnold Palmer Hospital.
